After an 0-3 start, Lawton Eisenhower has won their first two district games, beating Guymon on the road 61-0 and Piedmont 26-21 at home last week.

1st Down: Boomer Defense Forcing Turnovers

Woodward’s defense has forced at least one turnover a game this season. It’s biggest coming in the win over Clinton back on Sep. 1 with the Red Tornadoes driving into Boomer territory with a chance to kick a game-winning field goal.

The defense got two last week at Northwest Classen. The Knights fumbled a total of four times and were lucky to recover the first three after mental miscues on offense. Woodward recovered the fourth fumble in the third quarter. Frankie Hickey perfect read of an under-thrown pass gave the defense turnover number two.

2nd Down: What’s Best for the Team

The Boomers suffered several injuries on the offensive line, requiring some players to take on unfamiliar roles.

Players asked to take on different positions want to do whatever they can to help the team win.

Carsten Barnett is one player who will shift from his fullback role to the offensive line tonight. Sladyn Covalt, the Boomers bruising running back, will be at fullback on offense, and will move from linebacker to the defensive line.

3rd Down: New Faces

In their big win over Northwest Classen, the Boomers saw sophomores Matt Ogden and Shawn Chase get on the scoresheet for the first time in 2017.

Woodward wanted to add more depth to their roster in the offseason, and it’s paying off.

Junior Blake Alexander saw more carries at the wing back last week and the same should come this week.

Senior Colton Cox will again be at quarterback with junior Kole Marlatt at wing back with Alexander.

4th Down: Whose Ball is it Anyway?

The misdirection was key in the win over Northwest Classen and the Boomers will do more of it tonight. It kept the Knights defense on its heels, and Woodward hopes to keep the Eagles defense guessing throughout the evening.

-Weather could be a concern for tonight’s homecoming game.

There is the potential for showers and thunderstorms, with some being severe. There is a chance the storms hold off until after the game ends, which would prevent any lightning delays. But make sure to bring rain gear with you.

-Bishop McGuinness and Carl Albert, both undefeated, meet in Midwest City in a game that could determine the district champion.

Last season, the Fighting Irish won the regular season meeting, but Carl Albert got payback in the state championship game.

-Other district matchups this week:

PIEDMONT (1-4, 1-1) at GUYMON (0-5, 0-2)

NW CLASSEN (1-4, 0-2) at GUTHRIE (1-3, 1-1)
