OU No. 5, OSU No. 11 in First CFB Playoff Rankings

The first College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night, and Oklahoma is just on the outside of the top four.

The Sooners are No. 5 in the first playoff poll, followed by Ohio State, who OU beat in Week 2, at No. 6.

Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson are the top four teams.

Three more Big 12 schools were ranked in the poll. TCU, who has a win over Oklahoma State but a loss at Iowa State this past weekend, was ranked No. 8. Oklahoma State is No. 11 and Iowa State, who is beginning to look like a good loss for OU, came in at No. 15.

Bedlam will be a playoff elimination game for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The odds of a two-loss team getting into the playoff are low.

If both the Sooners and TCU were to win this weekend, next Saturday’s meeting in Norman would eliminate another one-loss team.

An Oklahoma State win this Saturday in Bedlam keeps the Cowboys in the picture, and going forward, their toughest test will be on the road at No. 15 Iowa State next week.

If the Big 12’s champion comes out with a 12-1 record, they will be a part of the conversation, especially with how competitive the conference is this season.

It’s a season where two SEC teams and an Independent could possibly take three spots, so the final spot could come down to the Big 12, Big Ten or ACC champion.
